BBC’s recent documentary into the ‘Burning Sun’ scandal reminds us that abuse of power in the world of celebrity and sex still haunts Korea. The two main culprits of this tale, Seungri of Big Bang and singer Jung Joon-young, recently angered the public because they appear to be returning to their old lives with impunity.

Has little changed because abusers still roam freely within Korean institutions? And are they as corruptible as ever? The recent scandal surrounding New Jeans creator Min Hee-jin reminds us how vulnerable civil society is to manipulators who use fame and greed to steal what’s most precious from others.
