What happens when the police are the ones who are super sus? Led by Academy Award-winning director Bong Joon-ho, Korea’s artists have demanded a thorough investigation into the police’s mishandling of the late actor Lee Sun-kyun’s blackmail case.
Right under the surface is a fork in the road for Korean society. Do we make it easier for the police, media and elite to throw celebrities under the bus to cover up their own scandals and pad their wallets? Will we make it super easy to threaten celebrities with a phony police investigation if they step out of line? That is what’s really at stake when we call for justice and the Lee Sun-kyun law to protect the public from the abuse of power.
